About the Department

                                             Vision & Mission of the Department:
 
  • To inculcate a basic idea of history both Indian and World History, in the students.
  • *To develop an understanding of historiography and the recent trends in the writing of history.
  • *To prepare the students for both higher study as well as employment opportunities.
 
 
Currently, the the Department teaches Undergraduate courses of both Honours and General in History according to the syllabus of the University of Burdwan. The Department has four teachers in substantive post and three SACT teachers of whom two teaches in the morning shift. The Department caters to students of all catagories viz. General, SC, ST, OBC A & OBC B. The Department tries to maintain a healthy male-female ratio with the morning section being fully dedicated to girls.
The Department has its own two classrooms named after eminent Indian historians viz. Sir Jadunath Sarkar & Prof. R.C Majumdar and its own staffroom named after Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay, the illuminary Indian archaeologist and historian.
 
Moreover, the department maintains its own seminar library to further increase the accessibility of books to its students.Amongst its new initiatives an Add-On Course on 'Heritage Sites of Bengal with Special Reference to Rarh Bengal' has been started to inculcate a sense of appreciation of regional history among the students of the College. Finally, establishing a historical society under the Department to co-ordinate various student activities is also in the future plan of the department.
